Lake Kourna is the only freshwater lake in Crete. Lake Kourna in ancient times was known by the name Korisia, but later took its current name from the Arabic word for lake.
It is located in a very beautiful location, in a hollow between hills, about 4km away from Georgioupolis in the prefecture of Chania (western Crete). Lake Kourna is relatively small with a maximum length of 1087 meters and a maximum width of 880 meters.
